True OS Installation Issues On HP 15-bs212wm

Hey everyone. :slight_smile: I came here from Telegram to post an issue I’ve been having. As the title says, I’ve been trying to install TrueOS on my HP 15-bs212wm. :slight_smile: I currently run Lubuntu, openSUSE, OpenBSD, and Windows 10 on here. Yeah, I know. XD So suffice to say the Hardware works ok. This seems to be a TrueOS-only issue. :slight_smile: This neat Laptop sports a Celeron Processor, UEFI, 4GB of RAM, and a standard Hard Drive. Delving further into the details, here is the output from Linux. It should report the correct info needed to proceed. :slight_smile:

I know it’s lengthy, so I appologize. :frowning: But it’s verbose. :slight_smile: I’ll try and follow up with a report generated when I try this again. If TrueOS 18.03 does not work,

All @jgroenveld is suggesting is. Troubleshooting on whether it’s trueos, freebsd current, or hardware

since trueos didn’t, you either elimiating freebsd or the hardware

I have freeBSD 12.0 running on an HP 15 laptop. I installed it while waiting for full disk encryption to become available on TrueOS. The install is laborious, following steps at their site it took several hours but all went well and it runs fine.

Disappointment. The default file system, forgot what it’s called, UFS ? does not seem to support Asian file names.

No wireless recognized so used the ether net and shared the internet conection from a Mac.

Graphics just got default.

Connect to my USB Geli encrypted ZFS backup drive worked fine, as did NFS transfer from Mac.

Don’t have time to mess with freeBSD, awaiting TrueOS, way easier to install and work with.

Pretty much everything I did on the HP 15 freeBSD was as root from a command line. I did install FluxBox, though I question the usefulness of that given the low res graphics. It did work.

Don’t know if any of this is of help in your problem, though.

FYI, the upcoming release of Trident, august time frame, will have the fix as well. GELI/UEFI has been patched.
