Install trueos onto usb3 drive?

Is it possible to install trueos onto a usb3 drive? I’ve been doing this for years in Linux, but I’m not sure how FreeBSD would go booting to a usb3 block device. Searching around, I haven’t seen anything useful, if anyone has any suggestions or know of any good guides, please let me know.

UPDATE: Doesn’t seem like trueos knows what to do with USB3 drives on a ChromeBook:

I can get a prompt when in USB2, but it needs help.

I’ll see if it boots on my desktop next.

UPDATE2: Able to install trueos to USB3 drive from USB3 drive on a hub on my desktop. Won’t but on ChromeBook though. Will boot to USB3 stick with installed TrueOS fine on the desktop, that’s cool.

I vaguely remember another user attempting it on TrueOS and it never worked for him/her. Unless somebody else has figured it out, your best bet is probably to download theFreeBSD mem stick image. and dd it to your flash drive

As one example of how to use the memstick image, assuming
the USB drive appears as /dev/da0 on your machine something
  like this should work:

# dd if=FreeBSD-11.1-RELEASE-amd64-memstick.img of=/dev/da0 bs=10240 conv=sync

They are working on something like that now. No idea if it will see the light if day

Nice, I’ll keep an eye out for it, would love to test something like this.

@Grootm, I’ll give that a try and get back, thank you.
