Audio out of sync with video in firefox quantum

#1

I noticed on my TrueOS 17.2 install, (ACER laptop with SSD) that audio lags behind video by at least 1 1/2 secs, on YouTube. This does not happen on my other laptops running MX-17 Linux, and interestingly, Qupzilla on TrueOS is in perfect audio/video sync. I tried forcing HTML5, but did not cure the problem. Pavarotti looks as if he is going to dismally fail the “Lip Sync” challenge.
Not a “showstopper” by any means, but I thought it worth mentioning.
(Us retired “ex IT people” have so much time now, to notice these small idiosyncrasies.)
If any “at home” people, like myself, are needed to run/test TrueOS 2.0 pre-release, at user level, I would be only too happy to offer my time.
Regards

Not sure what you mean by “stats for nerds” option…
Selecting either Play from the right click drop down menu, or just left clicking the video, the audio is still out of sync…
BTW, two of the finest Pavarotti arias on YouTube, are his “Celeste Aida” from LaScala, and the absolutely breathtaking rendition of “Una furtiva lagrima” from the Met…

Richard

Are You using “Adobe Flash”?

“Stats for Nerds” is on the normal video-right-click menu of running YouTubeVideos in Firefox since several years now.

P.S. I think, this is Pavarotti’s best. But I may err…

#7

I hope not !!!
As far as i know the HTML5 Everywhere Add On I installed is active… I was under the impression that FLASH is not installed by default any more…
P.S. The “Vesti la guibba” excerpt that you are using from Pagliacci, (another wonderful rendition…)
is almost certainly from the same time period as his “una furtiva…” at the Met…

Still out of sync… Removed Firefox Quantum, and installed Firefox-ESR instead. Audio and video are now in sync… The fact that Qupzilla also has audio and video in sync, leads me to conclude that Quantum has a problem when I play a video on this particular laptop… I don’t believe that it has anything to do with TrueOS…I’ll pursue this in my copious free time, and leave it to your discretion, as to whether you leave the thread open, or close it.
Thanks for the help
Richard

glad there is a fix.

fyi, there is an effort to get the intel crapware patches into STABLE, so other things might updated as well

#13

BTW, just out of sheer bloody mindedness, I installed Chromium, and that also works flawlessly…

Richard

awesome. software. On any given day, there are numerous possibilities of it working :frowning:

Only thing I can think of:
Lower video’s resolution one step.

If You block most of javascript in Firefox, then maybe speed auto-tuning doesn’t work correctly with provider’s server.
